September Snack Ideas

Pretzels
1 package dry yeast
3/4 teaspoon salt
4 cups flour
1-1/2 cups warm water
1-1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 egg, beaten
coarse salt, optional

Stir yeast into the warm water. Add salt, sugar, and flour. Mix well. Let your child knead the dough until smooth. Do not let the dough rise. Give each child a small piece of dough to roll into a rope. Twist the dough ropes into pretzel shapes. Lay pretzels on a foil-covered cookie sheet, dusted with flour. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse salt. Bake at 400 degrees until golden brown (about 8-10 minutes). Delicious eaten warm - makes 3-6 dozen.

Banana Muffins
4 cups biscuit mix
1 cup sugar
3 medium eggs
2/3 cup milk
1-1/2 cup bananas, mashed

Mix all ingredients with mixer on medium speed. Spray muffin tins with cooking spray. Pour muffin mix into greased tins. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes. Remove from oven and cool for 15 - 30 minutes. Makes 20 muffins.

Fruit Smoothie
1 Banana
1-1/2 cups milk
3/4 cup crushed pineapple with juice

Mix ingredients in blender on high for 1 minute and serve. You may also mash bananas in a bowl, add remaining ingredients, cover and shake vigorously - Serves 6 small cups/glasses.
