October Snack Ideas

Hot Spicy Cider
2 quarts pasteurized apple cider or apple juice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice

Heat cider, but do not boil. Add spices (more or less according to your taste). Stir and serve. Serves 8-10 (6-8 oz cups).

Easy Applesauce
6 tart apples
1-1/4 cups water
3-4 tablespoons sugar
Cinnamon

Wash, peel, core, and slice the apples. Your child can put them into a pan and add water. Cover and simmer until the apples are tender - about 20-30 minutes. Add sugar and cinnamon to taste. Makes 12 small servings.

Baked Apples
1-1/2 tablespoons margarine
2 (20oz) cans of sliced apples
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Use a baking pan with 1" sides and grease with margarine. Put apples and liquid in pan and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon (do not use sugar if canned apples are already packed with sugar or corn syrup). Bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Serves 6.
