CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - Parents, when enrolling your child in child care, do you wonder why there are so many forms to fill out and policies to go over? It takes time and seems like a lot of work. There are good reasons for all that paperwork. The information you give will help the caregiver keep your child safe and well cared for while you are at work.

has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #2 - A qualified child care provider will ask parents to read over and sign a copy of the program's policies so they understand things about the program and know what to expect for their children. Make sure you are clear about the policies and agree with them before enrolling your child in a child care program.

PSA #3 - Information that child care providers need from parents includes phone numbers and addresses where they can be reached at all times, their child's immunization and health records, and emergency contact information in case a parent cannot be reached. If a child needs to take medication while at child care, there are forms to be filled out and required procedures to be followed.

PSA #4 - Parents, there are all kinds of child care programs – small ones, large ones, and some in-between. There are also many types of caregivers. Your job is to visit several programs, look around, and ask lots of questions. You know your child best. Choose a program and caregiver that are best for your child.

PSA #5 - An experienced child care provider will know to be flexible and adjust the child care schedule to meet the children's needs. Sometimes children need to be fed or have a nap earlier. Some days they require more active play. There are times when free play should be extended for children to complete an important project or activity.
