CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - Child care is better when parents
and providers work with children as a team. Form a partnership with your
child’s caregiver. Start by making time to talk with the caregiver
daily. Let her know you value her expertise and time spent with your child.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #2 - Have good communication with your
child care provider. Find out about your child’s day and favorite
things to do at child care. Try doing some of them at home. Work with
the caregiver to plan ways to help teach your child if difficulties arise.

PSA #3 - Be a good partner with your child’s
caregiver. Tell her about things that might be happening in your child’s
life that could affect his day. These can include difficulty sleeping
the night before, excitement about a visit from grandparents, or one parent
being away on a business trip. Read all notes and newsletters sent home.
Drop in for a visit when you can.

PSA #4 A child care program may have a
brand new, fancy building and lots of toys and play equipment, or it may
not. Those things are not the most important. What matters most to your
child is the person providing the care. When looking for child care, make
sure the caregiver is well trained, experienced, and someone you want
your child to be with while you are working.

PSA #5 - Good child care providers will
be warm, caring, and energetic. They get down to a child’s eye-level
when talking with them. They join in games and activities. They understand
child development and provide a safe, healthy atmosphere for children.
