CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - Children need to be active every
day. It keeps them healthy and helps them grow. A quality child care program
will have large indoor and outdoor play areas and many activities scheduled.
Parents, visit your child’s child care program. Check the daily
schedule. Find out what is planned for active play.

PSA #2 - Parents, find out if your child
gets to play outdoors at child care. Children can be active outdoors on
cold winter days if they are dressed in warm clothing and waterproof boots.
A trained child care provider will plan activities such as taking walks,
making snow people, sledding, and games such as Tag and Follow the Leader.

PSA #3 - It’s a challenge for child
care providers to keep active kids busy indoors when the weather is bad.
Some indoor activities are circle games, jumping and hopping activities,
action songs, dancing to music, bean bag tossing games, and simple exercises.
Does your child’s provider have these types of activities on the
daily schedule?

PSA #4 -The colder weather has arrived
and along with it more colds, coughs, and flu. Children in child care
are exposed to more germs. Frequent hand washing by children and adults
can help keep kids from getting sick. Parents, make sure this is happening
at your child’s child care and at home.

PSA #5 - When looking for child care for
your child, make sure that frequent hand washing takes place to keep the
children from getting sick. Both the children and the caregiver need to
wash hands before handling and serving food and before and after eating.
Hands also need to be washed after wiping noses and mouths, before and
after diapering or bathroom routines, and after handling pets.
