CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - Children need affection, security,
attention, and good care. Working parents should choose a child care program
that provides these things. The child care provider should be well trained
and experienced.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #2 - A good child care program will
allow parents to visit anytime, unannounced. Parents will be encouraged
to volunteer to help for special events or outings. There will be chances
to talk with the caregivers regularly. Newsletters or parent notes will
provide current information.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #3 - Parents, when searching for child
care, find a program that has large areas for active play, both indoors
and outdoors. The facility should be bright, cheery, and clean. The daily
schedule should have both active and quiet playtimes and be posted for
parents to see.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care Web site at:

PSA #4 -Safety should be a prime concern
in child care programs. Extra precautions are important when children
go on outings, such as nature walks. See if your child’s caregiver
goes over safety rules with the children right before leaving.

PSA #5 - When taking children outdoors
for walks, a well-trained caregiver will make sure that safety comes first.
The children will be counted before leaving, during the outing, and at
the end. Emergency information, a first aid kit, and drinking water will
be available.
