CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS

PSA #1 - Children are eager to learn when they are happy. Understanding and kindness go a long way in helping children grow and learn new skills. PSA #2 -
Quality child care programs have caregivers who are energetic, positive, and flexible. Children are given choices and encouraged to make decisions. They are shown how to do things. The children are taught how to get along with others. PSA #3 -
When looking for child care, find a program that has bright, cheerful rooms with lots of light. See if there are areas for active play, both indoors and out. Are there lots of art materials and chances to use them? Books should be accessible and dramatic play on the schedule. PSA #4 -Well-trained child care providers know how to help children learn in positive ways. The children are given choices and help with planning whenever possible. PSA #5 - Parents, find a caregiver who talks with the children and explains what they are seeing and doing throughout the day. All children are welcomed and greeted with a smile. The caregiver gets down to the children’s eye level when talking with them. The children are alerted a few minutes before a change in an activity or routine.
