CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - When searching for child care,
parents need to find an experienced caregiver who provides a loving, nurturing
atmosphere in a safe facility. The early years are a child’s preparation
for school. A well-trained caregiver will offer activities that promote
learning.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #2 - Children become eager to learn
when encouraged to explore and taught to be aware of the world around
them. They benefit from reading stories, looking at books, and conversations
with others. Hands-on math activities and playing games provide chances
to learn. A good child care provider will offer a variety of activities
each day.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at

PSA #3 - See if your child’s caregiver
offers creative art projects, music, and time for imaginary play. Children
need active play to develop motor skills. Playing games provides chances
to learn and work with others.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at

PSA #4 -Being ready
for school is so much more than a child being able to recite his or her
name, address, and phone number; more than memorizing ABC’s; more
than being able to count to ten or twenty. Social and emotional skills
are important. A well-trained caregiver will provide your child with many
ways to learn at child care.

PSA #5 -Taking turns, following directions,
focusing attention, and self-control are some things a child needs to
be able to do to be ready for school. School-age children should have
good communication skills. They need to be able to solve problems with
words rather than actions. To succeed in school, a child should be able
to work independently and in a group, be self-confident, and able to make
friends.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at

It offers information on children’s issues for parents, child care
providers, and employers. There are Child Care Tips for Parents in English
