CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - Children need many things when
they go to child care each day. They need an experienced, loving caregiver
who is energetic and flexible. Children need a caregiver who understands
how children learn. Children need a place to go that is bright, safe,
and clean.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #2 - While at child care children need
safe space to run and play each day. They need to learn about nature and
the world around them. They need to hear stories and act them out. Children
benefit from singing songs and playing toy instruments. They need to use
their imaginations during pretend play and while creating art.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #3 - Parents, be sure your child is
getting what he needs at child care. He needs a variety of activities
each day and to be encouraged to try new things. He needs toys and playthings
that are right for his age. He needs time and attention from the caregiver.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #4 - There are
more and more working parents these days across the nation. Where are
children while mom and dad work? They are at child care centers, in family
home programs, or with relatives or neighbors. If you are looking for
child care, you have choices for your child. Take time to look at more
than one program before deciding.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better Kid Care Program
has information on children's issues for early childhood educators, child
care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #5 - You know your child.
Think about whether she will do better in a center program or in a family
home program. Visit both types to see which one offers all the things
your child needs. Ask lots of questions and observe the caregiver with
the children. Be sure it's a place where you want your child to spend
many hours while you are at work. If you do not feel right about a program,
keep on looking.
The Penn State University Cooperative Extension Better
Kid Care Program has information on children's issues for early childhood
educators, child care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web
site at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
PSA #6 - There is information for parents,
child care providers, and employers on children's issues from Penn
State Cooperative Extension's Better Kid Care Program on the Web
at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu.
