CHILD CARE TIPS FOR PARENTS
PSA #1 - What does it take to make a child
care program good? It takes well-trained caregivers. Good caregivers have
good values, a positive self-image, and get along well with others. They
acquire training on health, safety, and child development issues. They
are registered and licensed by the state.

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at

PSA #2 - Good child care providers enjoy
caring for children and are dedicated to doing what is right for each
child. This shows up in the activities they plan and how they treat the
children. They take time to communicate with the parents daily and work
with them to be sure the children are receiving the care they need.

PSA #3 - Good child care providers value
their profession and take time to meet with other caregivers from time
to time to share information about things they have learned about child
development and child care. They are always looking for new ideas and
do more than the minimum requirements for training.

PSA #4 -Summertime means your child will
probably be spending more time outdoors at play and looking for things
to do to keep busy. There are traditional child care programs and summer
day camps, as well. Whichever you choose, you need to be sure it is safe
and right for your child. Take time to visit, look around, and ask lots
of questions to learn about a program.

PSA #5 -Parents, if you are looking for
summer child care for your child, be sure the program has enough adults
to supervise and they have the required child abuse and criminal history
clearances. See if the play areas are safe. Does the play equipment meet
national safety standards? Is it in good shape and right for the ages
of the children?

care providers, and parents on the Better Kid Care web site at

PSA #6 - Parents, child care providers,
and employers can go to the Better Kid Care Web site on the Internet at
www.betterkidcare.psu.edu for
information about children. There are newsletters, child care tips, activity
and snack ideas, training for caregivers that can be done via computer,
and much more. Links to other Web sites include the Pennsylvania DPW Web
