GRANTS and FUNDING

  • Transition to Teaching Grant Program - The Transition to Teaching program encourages
    (1) the development and expansion of alternative routes to full state teacher certification, as well as (2) the recruitment and retention of highly qualified mid-career professionals, recent college graduates who
    have not majored in education, and highly qualified paraprofessionals as teachers in high-need schools operated by high-need local educational agencies (LEAs).
  • Federal Grant Opportunities for Children and Families - The Administration for Children and Families within the Department of Health and Human Services oversees federal programs that promote the economic and social well-being of families, children, individuals, and communities.
  • ExploraVision Awards - K-12 students select and research a current technology and explore what it could be like 20 years from now. Members of the four first-place teams will each receive a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a trip to Washington, DC, to be honored (Deadline: January 28, 2009). Visit http://www.exploravision.org/
  • The HMRS (Healthy Meals Resource System) Web site has a new section on grants, including resources to locate and write grants.

  • Environmental Education Curriculum Library – Find a plethora of ideas and curriculum planning tools from the National Environmental Education Week (EE Week); the largest organized environmental education event in the United States. EE Week provides a curricula library suggesting ideas for topics such as birds, recycling, air quality, and more for children K-12. 
  • National Environmental Education Week 2009: Be Water Wise! -  Mark your Calendars! April 12-19, 2009, is the NEEF (National Environmental Education Foundation) for the National Environmental Education Week 2009: Be Water Wise.  Be sure to register for EE Week!  In celebration of the Be Water Wise! NEEF has launched a new series of water-themed Nature Journaling Blogs in partnership with the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.

  • Parenting for School Success - Parents are a vital part of their children's learning. Six factors important to helping children learn include expectations, structure, and opportunities for earning, support, relationships, and modeling. Parenting for School Success uses the latest research, providing easy-to-use tools for parents and schools to work together to help support children's learning from kindergarten through twelfth grade.
  • Sharing Family Strengths - Family & Children's Service in Minneapolis has published the Sharing Family Strengths Activity Booklet, a resource being made available at no cost to families, teachers, mental health professionals, social workers, and community professionals who work with kids and families. It’s designed with the goal of helping parents and children identify and nurture family strengths through fun activities and helpful ideas. Available free while supplies last. HEALTH

  • MyPyramid for preschoolers is a full-size poster that includes the messages of MyPyramid for kids but utilizes illustrations of preschool children. The poster targets ages 2-5 and illustrates preschool-age-appropriate physical activities. Download the poster at http://teamnutrition.usda.gov
